Faux Fireplace Part II

Last month I did a post about building a faux fireplace (which you can see here if you missed it).  I LOVE how it turned out, but always felt like something was missing (other than the fire!)... and then I saw this beautiful fireplace by ddzine :

and I fell in love with the detail above the mantel.  So I went back to my husband to enlist his help in another "quick" project.  To my advantage DeeDee of ddzine is my sister-in-law, so I shamelessly used the "wow, look what your brother built!.." approach and off to Home Depot we went! (so maybe it didn't go quite that easy, but his brother is seriously talented, you can see a lot more of their home remodel here).  A few more pieces of wood, $23, and a couple hours later it was done!

Before (all the bare wall space was driving me crazy)

6 pieces of wood...

and some paint...

Project faux fireplace complete!... until I saw this picture on Pinterest...

wood stacked in the faux fireplace.. YES PLEASE!  Hmmmm... can you hear the wheels turning already!

psst... go here for a detailed tutorial on how we built it ;)

  38. It's gorgeous! I love the way you've extended the height visually - and the decorative accents, of course! ;) I have the supplies to do this (sitting in our family room for a year...oops)! Just the inspiration I needed! ;) And I do love those logs in your inspiration photo - I thought the same thing when trying to come up with an idea for our faux fireplace...except our wood doesn't look that perfect and the thought of 'bugs' scared me a little. lol!

Congratulations on being in the Top 12 at WhisperWood Cottage!
